The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.                                                  Brian Herbert

Knowledge is a valuable tool that is accessible to all of us. We at Magical Goldens, as certified golden retriever breeders, continually strive to educate ourselves on the best breeding and training methods so that we can offer you healthy, happy, well balanced puppies that will be able to fulfill the needs in your situation. Whether you are a breeder seeking knowledge or a future puppy owner trying to make sense of it all we hope you enjoy a peek into the science and knowledge that helps us make so many important decisions in our breeding practices.

PennHip vs. OFA
Why do we use pennhip? The PennHip method is an objective measure while OFA hip test is subjective (a radiologist’s opinion in the moment). We are thrilled to offer links to published and peer reviewed scientific studies about PennHip. We also encourage everyone to speak with a veterinarian who does both PennHip and OFA about the positives and negatives about each.

What is conformation and why do we show our dogs?
A conformation dog show, is a show where pedigree dogs are assessed. They are judged not on any skill or ability, but on their body structure and shape. The AKC describes the true purpose of the conformation show as being to “evaluate breeding stock”
Only purebred pedigree dogs are allowed to enter conformation shows. And the AKC explain that this is because the appearance and structure of a dogs “is an indication of the dog’s ability to produce quality purebred puppies”  As part of our commitment to producing the best puppies possible we have chosen to show our pure bred dogs in conformation to make sure they are quality breeding stock that will produce amazing puppies.
